Thorostats User feedback

We have recieved some excellent feedback from our users over the past year. Suggestions, comments and questions that will help us to bring you better information and tools to improve your handicappng. I want to share some of these comments and replies with everyone reading our forum areas.

User E.W. commented:
Why collect, compile, compute, analyze, and display class and par time data? This type of company effort require an enormous amount of human resource time and money; why not buy class and par time data from sources such as Handicapper's Data Warehouse, Eqibase, HorseStreet.com, Bloodhorse, etc. This suggestion would lead to your business big, big savings, and enable you to concentrate on refining and strengthening this approach.

Thorostats reply:
Hello E.W.,
Thank you for your feedback comments. I hope you enjoy using the website and features we offer. Your comments show that you are knowledgable in the area of collecting and presenting electronic information and they are greatly appreciated.

They come at an interestng point in our development. We have spent the past several months revising the procedures to collect and enhance the par time and class level charts. We are presentng this information in an attempt to provide ratings that perform at a better rate than the track takeout. We (as partners) have agreed that this investment will yield us the greatest return over the long term of our project.

Our method has positively identified 4 factors that are known to produce profits over significant sets of races. We define as significant 100 races or more over any set of race conditions. Improving the accuracy of our ratings will certainly lead to a greater winning percentage for our top power selections. It will remain to be seen if the profits on those selections can out pace the track takeout. If I have done my job properly we stand a great chance to make our goal a reality.

To answer your question, Thorostats understands that using commonly available data to make performance ratings will likely produce common results. In order for our selections to stand alone in producing profits we will need to use the actual race results to create a unique system for calculating our ratings.

Using information provided as is by HDW, Equibase and others will prove much more difficult to move the ratings into the profit category. This is due to the fact that so many others are equally adept at analyzing the same data. Thorostats prefers to create unique ratings based on our collective knowledge and experience.

Once this investment is made and profitable ratings are being generated, our costs of compiling this information will decrease and hopefully our wagering profits will rise. One significant cost of the handicapping process is the price of traditional past performance products. There is a certain point of expense that will cause diminishing returns for average and beginning handicappers especially.

I discovered this personally several years ago when using an expensive software product that required an additional investment in data as well as time spent analyzing the output. By the time I made it to the track to wager I didn't have enough available rescources to bet as much as was needed to realize a significant profit. The winning prices of the software selections alone would not be enough to overcome their expense.

In an attempt to increase profitability I found that I had to make winning selections outside the scope of the prediction software. This led me to two conclusions. One was that I needed to reduce information expenses if I was to enjoy long term success. Two was that if I had to go outside of my expensive software to make profitable selections, that software didn't suit my purposes.

One of our main goals in providing the ratings and tools in the manner that we do is to encourage players of all levels to join us in the parimutuel pools. We believe that the best way to do this is to teach folks as much as we can to enable them to be more successful when wagering on the races.

We'll soon be focusing our efforts on improving the presentation and functionality of our interactive website in addition to providing additional handicapping and decision making tools. I want to invite you to join us as we fully intend to keep working towards the improvements you've suggested in your comments.
