New Partner joins team Thorostats

I want to take this opportunity to introduce Mike Powers as a new partner of Thorostats . Mike brings a very positive attitude to our site and to the game. Mike has been handicapping horse's for 15yrs now and recently won a seat at the National Handicapping Championship VII in Las Vegas, using our products no doubt.

Here is what Mike has to say about the year ahead:
"Thorostats is growing! Time flies when you are having fun and this project has been a labour of love for the game. From our humble beginnings in 2004 we have tested and researched our site and I am happy to report very positive results! The past year has been invested in managing the database and and making various changes and tweaks that are absolutely necessary in any large project. With improved results and efficiency comes new confidence. As a result our IT, customer support and marketing departments are being expanded and we have set new goals for 2006!

Thanks to everyone who has helped out by using the site! Tony is always monitoring our activity, making certain that everything we don't see is running properly. I plan to be offering NEW information on using thorostats products and making our users feel at home here. In addition I will be adding posts that will explain our methods in detail and how YOU can use them to improve your ROI. Contact either of us at any time with your questions and comments. I hope my addition to the staff can give Tony some more time to handicap!

Visit often and please feel free to drop me a line in our forum http://forum.thorostats.com/index.php or if you prefer you may e-mail me mike@thorostats.com and tell us how we can help you become a more consistent and profitable horse player. Sincerely, "Murph" Mike Powers."

Sample of Thorostats Basic handicapping report

Let's look at this sample Handicapping sheet and evaluate the race. Our class par is 93. We see 4 horse's that have the ability to run to this class par...the #4, #7 and #6 horse's. I will first eliminate the 6 horse for his last race speed number was declining and connection factors are low. Now down to 2 horse's what to do, they are so close in Power Rating's?

Well the 7 looks like he may be the better choice due to higher speed numbers however the connection factors are slim to none. Our #4 horse shows he can run in this class and seems to have the better connection factors. Not to mention the fact this is his 3rd start and his speed numbers were consistent in his first 2 races without showing wear from those races which indicate form to me. I believe the #4 should improve in todays race and he is the top rated choice! #4 won and paid $17.80

Sample report of Class pars

Thorostats Class pars are unique in that we first calculate each track's purse average for Maiden Special Weight races then we use this dollar amount to obtain a basis for our class pars at each individual track. We also rate tracks (depending on avg dollar amount) from a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best. This rating provides us the ability to see Major tracks as compared to minor tracks. That rating is then applied to our class pars which also help us distinguish our track ratings. A $10,000 claimer at Santa Anita is rated a 100 versus a horse at Beulah being rated 96.

We also rely heavily on Class pars to coincide with our Speed pars. For instance, todays race is a class par of 105 at Santa Anita. Most horse's in the race have Speed numbers below 105. It's possible that maybe those horse's have been racing at minor tracks and even though the claiming prices were the same at each of those tracks, is it safe to assume that the minor is able to step up in the major leagues? Second...maybe the horse just can't compete at this level. Now we also see a horse in the race that has several past races with speed rating's of 108...we can assume this horse has or should be racing at higher class levels.

Sample report of Track Pars

This is a sample of our Track Pars for all horse racing circuits. Pars are calculated each and every day because lets face it, the tracks we play change daily!

Pars are based on 10,000 claimers, males, 3yrs and upward and dry surfaces.

We approach our pars a bit differently than most, we also incorporate class into our pars. For instance a 10k claimer at Santa Anita would be a 100 if the horse runs to track par time, however a 10k claimer at Beulah Park would be a 96 if the horse runs to par. I would much rather wager on a horse that competes at major class tracks in 10k par races than those from minor tracks. Our track class pars play an important role in our speed ratings.

Sample report of Thorostats Program Performance

Below you will find a screen shot of our Program Performance for Bay Meadows on 02/01/2006. An invaluable tool for tracking how the program is doing at your track. You are given the ability to search by date range, class, surface, dist, sex and age. For instance, check track trends and compare with others from a year back to confirm those trends still exsist today. Endless possibilities with this one.
